Benha National University Celebrates Orphan’s Day in a Humanitarian Initiative to Promote Social Solidarity

Under the patronage of Prof. Tamer Samir, President of Benha National University, the University organized a special celebration marking Orphan’s Day, as part of its broader commitment to community engagement, supporting vulnerable groups, and promoting the values of social solidarity and compassion.

The event was attended by Prof. Mahmoud Shakal Vice President for Employment, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship, along with representatives from the Ministry of Social Solidarity in Qalyubia Governorate, the Obour Educational Administration, the Family and Childhood Administration, members of Parliament, representatives of non-governmental organizations and civil society institutions, as well as officials from care homes across Qalyubia.

Prof. Tamer Samir affirmed that celebrating Orphan’s Day represents a key humanitarian initiative that reflects the University’s commitment to its societal role. He emphasized that supporting orphaned children—both psychologically and socially—is a national and humanitarian responsibility. He further noted that the University is keen to organize such initiatives to foster values of compassion and solidarity, while encouraging students to actively engage in community-based activities. He highlighted the importance of student participation in organizing such events, given their role in strengthening teamwork, volunteerism, and leadership skills, as well as enhancing students’ social awareness and sense of responsibility. He added that these experiences enable students to better understand their role within society and contribute to the development of a proactive and socially responsible generation capable of making a positive and sustainable impact.

Prof. Mahmoud Shakal stated that these initiatives are aligned with the University’s strategy to develop students’ competencies not only academically, but also across social and humanitarian dimensions. He affirmed that student involvement in such activities contributes to shaping a generation that is aware, responsible, and actively engaged in community service.

The celebration featured a warm and joyful atmosphere, including a variety of recreational and artistic activities, as well as interactive musical performances that brought happiness to the children. University students played an active role in engaging with the children and creating a positive and memorable experience.

The event also included a roundtable discussion with participants, during which a number of practical perspectives and proposals were presented to enhance support mechanisms for orphaned children. These discussions focused on strengthening educational empowerment, promoting social inclusion, and maximizing the impact of institutional efforts to ensure sustainable and effective care.
